EDI Theme Updates
Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) are central to the culture of the NIHR Newcastle PSRC. We recognise that fostering a diverse and inclusive environment strengthens both our research and our team. By actively embedding EDI principles into our work, we ensure that our research is relevant, respectful, and responsive to the needs of all communities.
Reasonable Adjustments Blog post
For our October EDI event we welcomed Steve Storey, lead clinical pharmacist at Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne & Wear (CNTW) NHS Trust, to come and speak to us about how we can make ‘Reasonable Adjustments to create Inclusive Consultations for Patients’. Reasonable adjustments are described as small, sensible changes made so that people who face barriers to accessing and receiving care, due to a disability, mental health condition or other additional needs, are given equal opportunities.

Diversity, representation and inclusion enhance the quality and impact of our findings, particularly when working in partnership with patients, their family members and members of the public.
2.
Within our NIHR Newcastle PSRC team, a commitment to EDI creates a supportive, collaborative space where varied perspectives are valued, leading to innovation and mutual learning
3.
We believe that an inclusive research culture is not only ethically essential, but also fundamental to driving meaningful and equitable improvements in patient safety and healthcare.
4.
Our EDI committee includes a diverse group of passionate people from across the NIHR Newcastle PSRC – including PhD students, research assistants, academics and others! We frequently collaborate with the EDI committee in the School of Pharmacy at Newcastle University, joint hosting several EDI related events per year.
